Top trends at in-cosmetics Global

We have returned to Oat Cosmetics HQ after a whirlwind week of clogs, cycling and cosmetics in Amsterdam. I can safely say in-cosmetics global 2018 was the busiest cosmetics event I have attended with over 800 leading global suppliers exhibiting. After finally a chance to reflect on the show, two trends really stood out.

Fermentation

in-cosmetics Global is a fantastic event to explore future cosmetics trends and discover the latest innovations.

One of the most popular areas at the show is the ‘Innovation Zone’ which showcases brand new personal care launches. Scouring the 100 launches and formulation displays there was clearly a focus on fermented ingredients. Other trends included ingredients that can support the skin microbiome and ingredients that tackle blue light damage and light pollution.

Oat Cosmetics launched their very own fermented Oat active, aurafirm, on the first day of the show. This natural active contains a prebiotic complex of fermented oat ingredients delivering favourable environmental skin conditions to help support and rebalance the skin’s normal microbiome, provide barrier improvement and improve skin radiance and smoothness.

Another to pick up on the fermented trend was none other than Vivienne RuddMINTEL’s cosmetic expert. During her ‘European Beauty Trends’ talk, Vivienne discussed the fermentation movement, explaining that many brands are using this process to unlock benefits from existing products. This is certainly the case with aurafirm, where a high performance, patented colloidal oatmeal, Oat COM, was paired with a unique and stable Lactobacillus strain before undergoing a fermentation process to unlock key molecules.

Vivienne also predicted the next ‘on trend’ ingredients- Algae and fungi. I will certainly keep an eye out for this next year!

Ethical Focus

Reed Exhibitions have been quick to react to the latest industry trends, implementing green and ethical features at the show. One such feature included the in-cosmetics ‘Green Ingredient Award’ recognising ingredients that make a significant environmental and social difference. Our very own UK grown Virgin Poppy Seed Oil was nominated for this award due to its sustainable credentials and the positive social and environmental changes the farmers are implementing locally.

The Oat Cosmetics stand could be found nestled beside another ‘green’ area – the ‘Sustainability Corner’, giving a platform to ethical ingredient brands in the industry which are challenging the norms.

Do not fear if you missed Oat Cosmetics at in-cosmetics global! We will also be attending New York Supplier’s Day from the 15-16th May on Booth 317.
