Formulation Friday: Make Up Remover Stick with Oat Lipid
As previously discussed in our 2019 Beauty Trends blog, the issue of water usage is rapidly coming to the forefront of the industry due to the wider sustainability trend. This is evident in the fact that consumers can now find an increasing number of products making a ‘waterless’ claim on store shelves, all whilst key players in the industry are vowing to reduce the amount of water used throughout their product manufacturing processes. These small shifts within the industry form part of a wider, global need for industries and consumers to take control of water usage, with recent findings suggesting that global freshwater supply cannot fulfill rapidly increasing demand for this finite resource(1). For consumers, the increasing popularity of waterless products is undoubtedly a win-win situation – who wouldn’t want to save the planet whilst also having a make up bag stuffed with very convenient, travel-friendly products?
Here at Oat Cosmetics, we recently formulated a waterless Make Up Remover Stick containing Oat Lipid e, our rich oat oil with a unique lipid profile, which hydrates and replenishes skin whist lifting away stubborn make up. The Make Up Remover Stick is a solid product with a balm texture and should be applied to dry skin before rinsing with warm water to breakdown make up and reveal clean skin. The inclusion of Oat Lipid in the formulation enables the product to provide several additional skincare benefits beyond simply removing the day’s make up. Rich in polar lipids, including a minimum total ceramide content of 1% of total lipids, the non-greasy Make Up Remover Stick forms a protective layer that plumps the skin and retains moisture whilst replenishing natural lipids lost in everyday activities.
